Why We Give.
We give because God has given to us. Our time, our talents, our treasures—they all come from God. But in love, our Heavenly Father gave us the greatest gift of all: God the Son became the man Jesus Christ; He became poor that we might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). What motivated Him? Hebrews 12:2 says that it was for the joy set before Him that He endured the cross. When that love grips us, we give our lives away. Free, sacrificial giving is then first and fundamentally a matter of love and joy. We love because He first loved us. We give because God has given to us.
